Chelsea could appoint Argentine specialist as their next head-coach in the summer

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino would reportedly be prepared to take over as Chelsea boss if Graham Potter was sacked.

Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel in the Chelsea dugout in September, and he enjoyed a positive start to his career in West London.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion boss began his tenure with a nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions, which included six victories.

However, the Blues have since experienced a poor run of results, winning just two of their previous nine competitive matches.

Following consecutive defeats to Manchester City, including a disappointing 4-0 loss in the third-round of the FA Cup on Sunday, Potter’s position as Chelsea boss has come under scrutiny.

According to The Sun, Pochettino would be willing to replace Potter if Chelsea decided it was time for a change of manager.

The report claims that the Argentine still has a home in the English capital despite leaving Tottenham over three years ago, and he has spent a lot of time in the country.

Although he is prepared to take over at Stamford Bridge, his links to Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham may prove to be a stumbling block.

Pochettino spent over five years as Spurs boss, and in his time with the club, Tottenham reached the 2018-19 Champions League final where they lost to Liverpool, and they also finished runners-up in the 2014-15 EFL Cup.

Most recently, he spent a year and a half as PSG head coach, winning the French Super Cup, the Coupe de France and a league title before he was sacked last summer.

The 50-year-old was also recently linked with the England national team job, but Gareth Southgate ultimately decided to stay on as manager following their World Cup quarter-final exit to France.

While Pochettino may be waiting in the wings, the Chelsea board are expected to give Potter until the end of January, although there is a belief that his future is being considered.

The Chelsea boss is set to receive reinforcements in the final third following reports that Joao Felix has flown to London to undergo a medical ahead of a loan move from Atletico Madrid.

After reaching a verbal agreement with Atletico, the Blues will reportedly pay an €11m (£9.7m) loan fee as well as covering his £250,000-a-week wages.

With Chelsea currently sat in 10th position in the Premier League table, Potter will hope that his side can return to winning ways against West London rivals Fulham on Thursday.
