Chelsea Football Club has recently undergone changes in its recruitment department, with new appointments and more on the way.

However, the club currently lacks a Sporting Director, a position that had been temporarily filled by co-owner Todd Boehly.

In an exclusive column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, insider Ben Jacobs reveals that the club has not ruled out hiring a new Sporting Director, but wants to see how the current recruitment dynamic pans out.

Jacobs explains that a successful transfer committee is not necessarily defined by specific titles, but rather by the freedom to

debate and challenge decisions.

He notes that while titles may seem important, they are not always as crucial as they appear.

With Boehly stepping down from his interim role, there is now scope for a more defined recruitment leader.

The name that has been frequently mentioned in connection with the Sporting Director position at Chelsea is Michael Edwards, the current Sporting Director at Liverpool.

Jacobs reveals that Edwards never said “no” to Chelsea in a categorical sense, but rather declined an offer due to timing.

He adds that Edwards was impressed by the project and offer presented to him by Chelsea.

Jacobs concludes by stating that Chelsea will continue to assess the situation and make a decision on the Sporting Director position in due course.

While the club wants to see how the current recruitment dynamic pans out, they have not ruled out the possibility of hiring a new Sporting Director, and will consider Edwards’ availability and interest as his break comes to an end later in the year.
