David Ornstein of The Athletic has recently revealed that Chelsea have seen an opening offer worth £55 million for Caicedo rejected by Brighton as it fell well below their valuation of the player.



CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GMS earlier this month that the Blues may have to pay ‘in excess of £75 million’ to prise the Ecuador international away from the Amex Stadium.


And Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has since stated that he cannot guarantee that Caicedo will finish the season with Brighton following the intense speculation surrounding his future.

“He is very important for us, it would be difficult to change with another player now,’ De Zerbi said. “I hope he finishes the season with us, but you know in the transfer market it is always difficult to give you one answer.”


Caicedo still has two and a half years left to run on his current Seagulls contract, though, meaning Chelsea will have to pay a premium price if they want to secure his service
